This post reflects my contributions to my learning and the learning community for 5304 and 5317. As I reflect on my time in both courses, my self-assessment is as follows:
5304 Leading Organizational Change: 98/100
5313 Resources - Digital Environments: 98/100
My collaborative group for both 5304 and 5317 includes myself, Lauren Blasdel, Mattheiu Brooks, Deena Fell, and Lance Moran. This group continues to be a source of encouragement and a team that builds each other up.
What Worked Well?
This may have been the fastest 8 weeks so far! What has worked well this round is similar to the others. Our group’s GroupMe has been a lifesaver. The continuous check-ins, reminders, encouragement… it’s all been what this girl needs! In addition to our GroupMe messages, we try to meet via Zoom on Wednesdays to discuss upcoming assignments, our feedback, and personal check-ins. I’m amazed at the friendships I’ve gained through this experience. Also, with the help of my friends, I was able to create my very first podcast. I’ve always loved podcasts and have dreamed of creating my own; the 5317 course gave me this opportunity and forced me to give it a go! I am excited to pursue podcasting in the future.
Furthermore, our collaborative efforts were reinforced through a shared Google Doc. Matthieu, once again, stepped up to establish our 5304/5317 Google Doc. His dedication to consolidating all necessary information in one place for both courses allowed me to concentrate and stay organized (thanks, Matt!). Witnessing everyone's progress and projects served as its own motivation for me. Lastly, being part of a group of like-minded and passionate educators has made this experience so easy and fun!
In addition to regular collaboration with my ADL group for both 5304 and 5317, I found the readings for 5304 truly enriching. I found immediate applicability for the insights gained from each book within my role as an Instructional Technology Specialist. As I navigate my leadership role, these readings have proven invaluable in helping me grasp the complexities of leadership.
What Could Be Better?
While I loved these classes and the readings, I felt like I was rushed. There were tons of wonderful information to sift through in 5304 specifically, but there was no time to digest it all. I had just enough time to read, complete an assignment, then start the next reading. I used my time wisely this 8 weeks, so I wish I could say I didn’t take the time to process, but between grad school, working full time, being a wife and mother, losing my German Shepherd, and having my father in the ICU, I used every ounce of time I could during this 8-week timeframe. I think that’s the tough thing about grad school in general: there’s no time to process.
Contributing to Learning and the Learning of the Community
Across both 5304 and 5317, I maintained a consistent presence in Dr. Grogan and Dr. Padovan's Zoom meetings. During these sessions, I listened attentively, taking detailed notes and participating in break-out room discussions.
In addition to my collaborative group interactions, I participated in weekly discussions, responded to our GroupMe and clarified any confusion on assignments, and committed the time to keeping our collaborative Google Doc current by sharing completed assignments and discussions.
In general, I am proud of the contributions I've made, especially considering the external pressures I faced during this 8-week period. Nevertheless, without the steadfast support of my group (Deena, Lauren, Lance, and Mattheiu) I would not have had the success I did. Their generosity, kindness, and collaboration are something I am forever grateful for. I am excited to venture into the next two courses!
